Thank you

There is excitement with the PTO group this year…this year we turn 5 years old!  First off, we need to thank our founding members and all the different board members throughout the years. Each of you helped build our program and we can’t thank you enough.  Secondly, I would like to thank our current board members for their tireless efforts to continue to grow this organization to the level it is today. Next, the members of our community!  You may not know it, but if your child(ren), grandchild(ren) or neighbor’s kid(s) attend NPS, that automatically enrolls you into our PTO. We couldn’t do it without the support and donations from all of you. Last, but certainly not least, the area businesses.  Thank you for the past support to our organization and we look forward to working together on future projects! The Nicollet Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will continue to bring different family events, fundraisers and support to the Nicollet School and community as long as we have amazing people to support and volunteer with us.

    1. Will highly recommend to all teachers at the PTO Book Fair next year that teachers have their wish list out and ready.
      1. Will need to get planning this now.  Maybe could be during School Open House at the beginning of the year.
  3.  Recess Equipment: cones, sets of bases ect..  Todd is going to get more information on this one.  This brought up a discussion of organized play type games such as Gaga ball.  What other style games are out there to be looked at?

Old Business

Wings of Mercy Donation – From the Bake Sale that took place in Feb $274 was raised for the Wings of Mercy Org. with a matching donation from the family $548 is being sent off to Wings of Mercy in honor of Ben Kettner.

Volleyball Concessions – First event of Summer Camps Fundraiser took place with 2 concessions.  Final expense reciepts are coming in but it looks like there was $1000 profit from the event.

Nicollet’s Hope 5k Planning – Planning is behind from previous years.  Additional help is needed.  Quote for shirts has been sent out to two locations.  The two that are chairing the event recommend to move to a color run.  The only event that will take place is the Friendship Days event.  As always this fundraiser is for the PTO and students classes that help.  This year it will be offered to the 7th and 8th grade so they can start building there funds.  Jill Martens will be reaching out to the class advisors and parents to see if they can assist in helping plan and event that day. Josh Chadderdon will assist with doing designs for the shirts.  Next meeting 4/7 @ 7PM at Rapid Ricks all are welcome to join.

Kindergarten Round Up – April 4th – Jill Martens will be attending to invite people to the PTO.

PTO Scholarship for 2019 Seniors at NHS. – Scholarship details were reviewed at the meeting.  Minor changes were needing to be adjusted and will be sent to Sam Cotton.  Group agreed for our first Scholarship we will award two @ $500.00 each.

All Staff Week Planning –  Celebration of all Nicollet Staff, Teachers and School Bus Drivers will becoming up early May.  PTO is working with the Wellness Group for one event but PTO will sponsor two meals.  1 – Breakfast and 1 – lunch all items will be in the Staff lounge.  Amy Wills will start asking for assistance and donation in the coming weeks.

Honors Breakfast will take place for all Middle and High School Students and their parents from 7:30AM – 7:55AM.  This event will be to honor all on A and B honor roll..  Rolls, Coffee and Water will be served.

Bully Night Training: Topic for discussion was held on how to complete the circle on bully training and include parents in on the training.  Todd is going to reach out to other administrators and see how/what they do for this.

Follow Up discussion on Teen Center and Donations – Jill Martens spoke to previous Board Members who were on the board during planning or building of the Teen Center to see what the room was truly intended for.  Found it was suppose to be a room for students taking college courses to do homework and relax on down time.  Reason being is the PTO has been given donations of many things that would be perfect for that room.  With discussion privileges were taken away due to past seniors not keeping it clean and because of bad behavior.  Todd recommended to talk with the new superintendent.

Parent Request of new fencing for the Community Ed/ JV Baseball was given.  Cost estimate was coming in at $1500.00.  It was determined more information was needed such as quotes and bill of materials.  Amy Wills did state that they could maybe get parents to work concessions in order to make money up. It is Amy’s understanding that the Booster Club was not contacted for a donation.  Request did not come to a vote as more information is needed.

Thank you to those that joined the meeting tonight and we hope to see you at a meeting soon.

New Items:

PTO Daycare Fundraising – Heather Anthony has been leading a fundraiser for the NPS Daycare at the Nicollet Roll-ins the past two summers. She reported that an estimated $1100 was made. At this time we asked if any request to use the funds are needed and she was hoping to check at the parent meeting but the meeting was postponed due to illness. Heather also is going to see if some other parent would like to take the lead on doing this fundraiser from a daycare prospective. She will keep us posted but either way the PTO will keep the spot for the Roll-ins
Fall Conference Meals – Elementary – Amy Wills will be sending out a message for assistance to have food for the Elementary Conferences. Elementary Conferences are next week the 15th and 16th.

Fundraising Updates:
Give to the Max Day – November 15th – Information will be posted on Facebook to promote. Money received will be set aside for student scholarship fund.
Book Fair at school – We are going to take a step back and look at all options for this. Looking at maybe a time we could do the book fair with some sort of community event to get more of a push in sales.
Book Fair at B & N – Jill has asked B & N if there are any book fair dates open at the Mankato location. Will report back what she has. At this time we still do have approx. $300 in funds at B & N.
Nicollet Hope 5k (June 15, 2019) – Friendship Days is June 13 – 15. Looking for volunteers to assist with planning and day of activities. Some thoughts that need to be reviewed is a glow run vs. a morning run. If interested in assisting please contact Jill Martens
South Gym Concessions Stand for Jr. High Games – This idea came up when we first started the PTO but has resurfaced as the request has come up by other parents. Jill reached out to the Booster club to see if they wanted to do something like that and Lisa Fischer came back and said they have enough that if the PTO wanted to consider doing this we sure can. A small team will meet to come up with ideas and how to man the area for the games to see if this is something the PTO will take on.
Raider Pride PTO Fundraiser – More information will be coming out but the PTO will be doing a Duct tape the Principal to the wall fundraiser. We are hoping we can have the event take place during snow week or around that time.

Student/Family Activities Updates:
Honors Breakfast for A/B Honor Roll Kids and their parents – It was approved to move forward. Jill Martens will discuss with Todd T. and will get a plan in motion to move forward. On the Elementary side we will change up the theme a little bit to be more like: Rolls with my Hero (Dad, Grandpa, Neighbor), Rolls with my Heroine (Dad, Grandpa, Neighbor) Rolls with my Grandparents/Special Friend
Family Holiday Movie Jill Martens setting up a meeting to discuss to figure out if this something we can still fit in.
Raider Spirit Event – The PTO decided to sponsor an event that is for Parents and Students. The PTO will supply the Paint/Markers and Paper and to make Posters and Banners that will be used through out the Winter season to promote school spirit in the gyms and hallways. Watch Facebook for an upcoming day.
Pizza Bingo – Looking to do this in the spring. This event is NOT to be confused with the Back Pack events at the legion. Watch for more details.
Nicollet’s Hope Night – Winter Event – Looking to change up what was done previously this is still in the early planning stages but doing a bake sale and asking for donations to support places our local members have used while in need this past year. Still waiting for some confirmations before we can say to many details.

Misc Projects:
Staff Lounge Updates – a sub team has been put together to look at options to updating the staff lounge to make it more inviting and clean. If interested on being on the team let Jill Martens know.
Assemblies for students all ages – If there are any assemblies you hear about from other schools that would be great to bring to Nicollet please e-mail information to [email protected]

Nicollet PTO’s Nicollet’s Hope 5k is coming soon…

The Nicollet PTO has chosen their 2018 Nicollet’s Hope Ambassador. When the PTO took over the Nicollet’s Hope walk it was our goal to use it to bring the community together for a fundraiser for the PTO and family’s and or groups that the community can get behind to show true Nicollet Hope.

This year we will continue to walk for one of our own, This year it is for a Husband, Dad, Son and Friend of people in our community.
This years ambassador is Ben Kettner. With this walk a portion of the funds will be given to the Ben Kettner family. The walk will take place Saturday morning during Friendship days. More details to come. If you would like to assist in the planning of the event please let us know by reaching out to Jill Martens or e-mail at [email protected]

Here is a little information about Ben that was shared on the upcoming Benefit page:

Ben Kettner (39), a loving husband and father born and raised in Nicollet, was recently diagnosed with stage IV metastatic lung cancer, following an unexpected weeklong stay in the hospital that was prompted by a blood clot in his leg, shortness of breath and chest pain. Comprehensive testing has since revealed the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes, bones (spine, ribs and hip) and several spots on the brain.

Ben will likely be starting a course of treatment to prolong his health in March 2018.

Ben resides in Nicollet with his wife, Naomi, and their three young children, Samantha (12), Jaxon (6) and Ryder (2).

Welcome to the Nicollet PTO Website!

Welcome to the Nicollet PTO Website!

Fall is here and school has started… Something very exciting is taking place right in our own community, a partnership is being developed with the school called Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO). This program will support all ages at Nicollet Public School Pre-K – 12th grade.

We are excited about involving the parents, teachers and the community into the school and starting the tradition of supporting events that bring school and families together.

To keep you informed we would like to invite you to attend the monthly meets we are scheduling which will be held on the 1st Monday of each monthly @ 6:30pm (Meeting time was approved to move at October Meeting). At the meetings we look to discuss recent issues, provide new information on upcoming events and fundraisers and bring everyone up to speed on the current programs and financials as well as hearing about your concerns, needs and goals. With this being our first year we will have a lot more informational meetings as we discuss what we need/want to accomplish and look forward to your input. We are looking to have childcare provided during the meetings to make it easier for families to join us.

We encourage frequent and open communication. We have developed a Facebook page and have a link out on the schools website ( http://www.isd507.k12.mn.us/ ) These communication avenues will allow us to inform you of upcoming events, meetings/notes, agendas as well as a route for others to add comments and suggestions. By using these options we are trying to keep things “green” to conserve on paper, ink, time and energy!

PTO has two main goals: One being to bring the community and school together and our second goal is to start to fund NPS education programs/activities and extracurricular programs to make it the best place for the students, staff and community.

We all know that in order for a PTO to survive we need volunteers. We are going to be promoting the 2 Hour Power program with PTO. We’d love your 2 Hours, and –Really! We promise! – There’s no obligation beyond helping out in this small, but important way. If you’d like to do more – great, but we know that’s not a fit for everyone. Be watching for more information on 2 Hour Power volunteering opportunities.

Be sure to spread the word as we know these efforts will go a further with the help from parents and community members as well. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] or look us up on Facebook: Nicollet Public School PTO.
